White Raven plush (Teen Titans)
(SPOILER WARNING!)

"Fathers are kind. Fathers protect you. Fathers raise you. I was protected by the monks of Azarath. I was raised by my friends. THEY are my family, THIS is my home. And YOU are not welcome here. Azarath, Metrion, ZINTHOS!" (Raven, Teen Titans season 4, "The End part 3")

I enjoyed the original Teen Titans series that Cartoon Network used to air, and Raven is my favorite character. This is my favorite version of her. :)

Born to Arella (her human mother) and Trigon (her demonic father), Raven was born in the peaceful dimension of Azarath. Arella had fled a devil worshipping cult when Azarath took her in and protected her. When Raven was born, they looked into her future and discovered that she was linked to a horrible prophecy: she would become the portal that would bring Trigon to Earth and he would destroy it. The monks taught Raven to control her emotions and therefore her powers using a mantra (see above).

One day, on Earth the Teen Titans discovered that it was Raven's birthday. Slade returned from the dead with demonic powers and placed inscriptions on Raven, then showed her the prophecy. When Slade and his demonic army came to take Raven by force, the team fought them. But, Trigon manipulated Raven, and she gave some of her powers to them, then left with Slade.

After fulfilling the prophecy, Raven was found by Robin and she had reverted back to a little girl. They thought that she had lost her powers. But Slade (who had been denied the only reason he agreed to help Trigon: his mortal life) and the Titans tried fighting Trigon, they were knocked down. Raven was attacked, only to be saved by her new power: pure white light. Raven reverted back into a teenager, and destroyed Trigon, saving Earth and the whole universe.

Raven is made from light grey, white, a little back and purple felt, as well as polyester fiberfill, fabric glue, several round red gems, a red diamond gem, gold ribbon & tassles, and a facial design created by my friend and dA user Caroline-draws-stuff.

Raven was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, and is the property of DC Comics. We didn't create this character, just this plush. :)

Sumire has been completed for several days. Next project: White Raven from Teen Titans! Then: Cheza from Wolf's Rain! ;)
Sumire (OC) plush (back)
This is the back of the Sumire plush that Caroline-draws-stuff and I created! Her obi is tied with the butterfly knot, which is very popular with girls in Japan. :D

Sumire (OC) plush
Over 2 years ago, I had a plan to create a Hinata Hyuga plush. My collaborator Caroline-draws-stuff, who has been creating most of my plush faces for me, created a face that while absolutely beautiful did not have the correct eyes for Hinata. But then I came up with a great thought: don't waste this face and use it for an OC (original character) plush! :D

Sumire is a kind and honest spirit of a girl who never got to go to the summer solstice festival when she was alive. But then one summer she decided to disguise herself as a human girl and go to her first festival. I have learned today that white butterflies represent kind spirits, especially in the Japanese story The White Butterfly. Sumire  means "violet" in Japanese; violets represent honesty in Japanese flower arranging. :)

This plush is the result of over 2 years of research and hard work, including finding patterns for yukata (the best one I could find is a pattern created by StacheRabbit here on dA, which I modified to make a 2 piece yukata), how to tie obi (the belt that goes around a yukata or kimono), learning about geta (traditional Japanese sandals), and finding a great hairstyle (inspired by the how to draw hair tutorial that dA user ryky created). Sumire is made from ivory, medium brown, raspberry and chalk violet felt, polyester fiberfill stuffing, fabric glue, some beautiful butterfly accented cotton fabric I found on eBay, a pink felt flower that was a free gift with a felt order and, of course, the beautiful face that was created by my friend and fellow dA member Caroline-draws-stuff! :D

Sumire is the creation of myself and Caroline-draws-stuff. Please give us credit if you do decide to make any fan art of her. :D

Five years ago today, I finished making my very first plush: Toph Beifong from Avatar: The Last Airbender. :)

freespirit81.deviantart.com/ar…

You see, Nickelodeon never issued an official Toph plush. I had just bought the Book 3: Fire version of  Zuko, but Team Avatar wouldn't be complete without her. So I started looking online, but only found custom plushes of Toph. I found an especially good one, and found out who made her: dA user Jequila. I joined dA to talk with her. Eventually, I was inspired to make my own version.

My brother and I (yes, he helped with the first plush, but not since) began making her using a video on YouTube with a no sew method created by ( possibly former) dA member MouseLeaf (?), also known as SarrieX13 on YouTube. I modified the method a bit, and especially afterwards. Having mild cerebral palsy (some of my finer motor skills are underdeveloped)  and difficulty drawing her face, my friend and fellow dA user Krystalin (aka half of the duo now known as Art Knight Studios, who are creating the amazing Avatar prequel webcomic The Tale of Tashi and Nima) offered to create Toph's face ( as well as the faces for my next 3 projects: Avatar Korra, Lain Iwakura and Juna Ariyoshi [Earth Maiden Arjuna]). I used the iron-on method videos of dA user and now friend Sakkysa (formerly known as SakkyAttack).  My friend/fellow dA user Caroline-draws-stuff took over Krystalin's duties as face artist afterwards.

Even though the number of comments left for each plush as dwindled down to 1 or 2 comments, I'm still working on my art. My current project is an OC (original character): Sumire. Raven from Teen Titans (the original series Cartoon Network made, NOT the current one) will be next. She'll be in her white costume with long hair (the version that defeated Trigon). ;)
